This picture shows the later stages of the building of the Tyne Bridge, which was opened in 1928. Like many pictures of this period, it is painted in a limited range of colours, emphasising line and pattern. Patches of light blue over dark green represent reflections on the surface of the river. Edward Dickey was Director of the School of Art at the University in Newcastle.
