Harvesters Resting by Thomas Frederick Mason Sheard 50x70cm PosterHarvesters Resting by Thomas Frederick Mason Sheard 50x70cm Poster. Actual image size 41.5 x 59cm. Original painting held in the Shipley Art Gallery. TWCMS: F9380. A group of farmworkers take a break from harvesting in this scene. One of the two young lads in the group is plaiting a corn dolly, which was a traditional rural craft. Behind them, a horse-drawn harvesting machine is continuing work. This picture is part of the Realist art movement in the late 19th century, which focused far more than before on the lives of working people. Thomas Sheard was influenced by similar art styles in France, where he worked until 1891. He subsequently settled in London.
