In Springtime by Harold Knight A2 PosterIn Springtime by Harold Knight A2 596mm x 400mm 23x 16 inches Poster. Actual image size 30.5 x 36cm. Original painting is held in the Laing Art Gallery TWCMS: C6963. Produced with permission from Harold knight DACS. Only reproduction of this image available, not available on Artprints. This large and ambitious picture was painted in the summer of 1908 or 1909, when Harold Knight was working as one of the group of artists known as the Newlyn School of painters, in Cornwall. The picture contrasts the effects of full sunshine on the garden with the shaded light dappling the man and woman drinking tea. Details such as the little pools of red light on the hand of the man suggest that the picture was at least partly painted in the open air. The group of children in full sun in the background links this picture with 'The Beach', painted by Harold's wife Laura Knight.
