Sails and ships create dramatic dark shapes against the purple night sky. Fishermen are bringing a coble (small fishing boat) into port at North Shields. On the right is the large black shape of the 'Wellesley', with only a single small mast up. This was an ex-navy ship moored on the river and used to train boys as sailors.
